FISH LEONG

Fish Leong Biography
Name: Fish Leong
Real Name: Jasmine Leong
Chinese Name: 梁靜茹
Pinyin in Chinese: liang jing ru
Profession: Singer
Country: Malaysia
Birthday: June. 16, 1978
Blood Type: O

Fish Leong (Chinese: 梁静茹; Pinyin: Liáng Jìngrú; born June 16, 1978) is the stage name of Jasmine Leong, a Chinese Malaysian singer in the Mandarin pop scene who has had much success in Taiwan, Mandland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia , Singapore and Japan. She is best known for her love-themed ballads, many of which have become popular KTV hits.

Leong was born in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Her real name is “Leong Chui Peng” (Chinese: 梁翠萍; Pinyin: Liáng Cùipíng). She started her career as a cover version singer at Hai Luo Music Cafe.

In her youth, Leong had participated in many local singing competitions and emerged as winners in a few of them. Veteran singer Jonathan Lee discovered her during a singing competition at Hai Luo. She was then singing a song called Qī Dài (期待) which was composed by her friend. She started her career in Taiwan in October 1997 after joining Rock Records of Taiwan. It was then that she adopted the name “Fish”, supposedly because of her salmon-like features. Her debut album Yí Yè Zhǎng Dà was released after two years, only to encounter an earthquake on the day of the album launch promotion (21 September 1999). Her career only managed to take off after the successful launch of her second album Yong Qì.

Leong has enjoyed collaborations with prominent Chinese songwriters and producers, such as Lee-Hom Wang and Ashin of Mayday, the latter being her fellow labelmate. She has also sung duets with fellow Malaysians and labelmates, Guang Liang, Pin Guan and Yu Heng. Her albums have been best-sellers in the East Asia region, including Singapore and Taiwan, where she is based. Since making her debut in 1999, Leong has released eight solo albums. Her best-selling album The Power of Love had sold in excess of 1.5 million copies in Asia and more than 40,000 copies were sold in Singapore alone. Wings Of Love, her seventh and double-platinum album, topped Singapore’s RIAS sales chart for two weeks and remained within the top 15 positions for more than two months. At the Singapore Hits Awards 2003, she was crowned the Best Female Vocalist. In 2004, she was presented with the Regional (Malaysia) Most Popular Singer prize at the same event. In 2005, she won the Most Popular Female Singer and Regional (Malaysia) Most Popular Singer awards. Her latest album is Silk Road of Love which sold over 1 million copies in asia. She is currently working on a world tour concerts series(including Taiwan, Mandland China, Malaysia and Singapore.

Jasmine Leong, a diva of sweet, soulful Mandarin melodies, was born in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan, Malaysia on June 16, 1978. She is Cantonese, with her real name of Leong Chui Peng and her nickname of Fish. She started her singing career as a “cover version” singer, participated in many local singing competitions and emerged as a winner for a few of them. She began her career in Taiwan in October 1997 after joining the Rock Records of Taiwan and made her debut in 1999. She took Jonathan Lee, a noted musician, as her second “father” and she is now the No.1 female singer of the Rock Records. She burst into tears when she sang the song “Applause Sounds”, which made her recall her late father.

However, there is nothing fishy about Fish! She demonstrates a quality sound that has been missing in recent times amongst many performers. She sings like an angel, and each and every song makes you smile or touches your heart. Her voice is sweet, soft, smooth and inspiring, and the lyrics mostly encouraging, making you feel like you are roaming the clouds and floating endlessly in heaven. While she hits very high notes, she also maintains the feel of ease and relaxation. This makes her singing unique and beautiful.

Recently, she staged her long-anticipated “Love Parade” concert in Beijing Worker’s Gymnasium. It was the first time for her to hold a concert in the Chinese mainland. Organizers invited orchestral musicians to accompany her voice.

After that, the Taiwanese pop princess released her latest album Silk Road – Path to Love. It is brimming with romantic ballads including the title song “Silk Road” that offers a dynamic composition by singer/songwriter Wang Lee-hom and lyrics by A-hsin from the popular band Mayday. The meaningful song “Road” as well as “One on One” was tailor-made for her by famous Tanya Chua. With so many goodies assembled on just one album, she is sure to land another winner!

The photos in her “Power of Love Songs” album made a breakthrough over her former conservative image. And the sexiest picture she posed was in a silver bra top.

She is the karaoke pop queen with a very refreshing tune. I like many of her songs such as “Courage”, “Quiet Summer”, “If There Is One Day”, “Grown up in a Day”, “Happy Break-up”, and “My Love Lasts Longer Than Two or Three Days”.

Sushmita Sen is born on November 19, 1975 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) is a well-known Bollywood actress and was India’s first Miss Universe in 1994. Sushmita’s father Shubeer Sen is a former Indian Air Force officer; her mother Subhra Sen worked as a fashion artist and jewellery designer. She has one brother, Rajeev Sen, and a sister, Neelam Sen.

Sushmita’s mother tongue is Bengali. She was born in Andra Pradesh, but grew up in Delhi. She attended school at Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and Air Force Silver in Delhi, and later, schools in Nagpur and Jorhat. In Delhi, she studied English and planned a career in journalism.

In 2000, she adopted a daughter, Renee.

In 1994 at the age of eighteen, Sushmita won the title of Miss India (beating out Aishwarya Rai). Later that year, she became the first Indian Miss Universe in the Miss Universe Pageant held in the Philippines. She then started working as an actress.

Her first movie, Ratchakan in Tamil, was quite a moderate hit. However, movies like Dastak in 1996, where she played the victim of a stalker, didn’t do well at the cinema, but her appearance as Rupali in David Dhawan’s movie Biwi No. 1 won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999. So far, her biggest hit has been the 2004 movie Main Hoon Na, in which she starred as Shah Rukh Khan’s love interest. Later on, she played a lawyer in Main Aisa Hi Hoon opposite Ajay Devgan. In 2005, she also starred in a remake of Cactus Flower, called Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya: Sen played the lead opposite Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif and essayed the role of Ingrid Bergman. Sushmita’s defence background, ensured that she led a nomadic life. Her mother’s decision to shift base to Delhi, was to render some permanency in her children’s lives, as also to enable her children have proper education. With an advantageous height, she made her entry into the world of fashion. She did a few fashion shows before she went in for the Femina Miss India pageant. Her decision to join movies was well accepted and Bollywood welcomed her with open arms. She made her debut in ‘Dastak’. The film was a dud at the box office. Soon another flop ‘Zor’ followed. Things were not going right for her. She was dubbed too westernized, too tall for Indian heroes. But Sushmita has accepted it all with a pinch of salt. The success of Biwi No.1 along with her dance number in Sirf Tum, Fiza and Kyonki… Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta changed her equation in Bollywood.

She has got very rave reviews for convincing portrayal of her character in the film Filhaal. On a personal front, Sushmita is a charmer, an easygoing person who loves writing poetry. She has adopted a baby girl whom she has named Renee. Renee was apparently a sick and unhealthy baby when Sushmita decided to adopt her. Life for Sush has changed ever since. She supposedly is said to have changed her habits, so that they would not influence the child as she grows. This ex-Miss Universe remains a much sought after woman today and the common man’s ultimate dream and fantasy.

Official site www.lovelva.com

She speaks and writes some English, due to having lived for a year or two during her highschool years in Vancouver, Canada. While in Vancouver, she entered the New Talent Singing Awards Vancouver Audition 1998 with her birth name of Hsiao Ya-chih (蕭雅之).

She became one of the 12 finalists but did not place in the top 5. The song she sang was CoCo Lee’s “Love Me A While Longer 愛我久一點”. Also in the competition that year were 3 other Taiwanese celebrities, 183 Club member Jacky Chu 祝釩剛 (who was the winner), DJ Ruby Lu 盧春如 (1st Runner-Up) and 蜜雪薇琪 (Michelle*Vickie) member Michelle Hsu (now known as Mimi or Michelle).

Music career
Elva was originally signed to Virgin Records Taiwan, a sub-label of EMI, which created the stage name of 蕭亞軒 for her. Her self-titled début album in 1999 sold over 1 million copies in Asia and cemented her status in the Chinese music industry.

Elva Hsiao sang the song “U Make Me Wanna”, which appeared on her album Love’s Theme Song, Kiss (2002), with British boy band Blue.Virgin Records and Elva parted ways in summer of 2004.

For a year, Elva rested as record companies fought over her next contract. It ended up becoming a battle between Warner Music Taiwan and Sony BMG, with Warner Music winning the battle in the end. Elva signed into Warner Music on March 23rd, 2005, making her Warner Taiwan’s “fifth diva” (after Sammi Cheng, A-Mei Chang, Na Ying, and Stefanie Sun).[1] Fans were overjoyed at this, and waited for the coming of a new album, which Warner had promised would be released in June 2005.

However, Warner Music Taiwan faced some serious issues during this time, including executives resigning and a change of staff members. Many other Warner artists (including Stefanie Sun, Machi, A-Mei, and F.I.R.) were affected and did not see much promotion. However, none faced as much trouble as Elva, whose album was delayed until September, then October, then November, December, until Warner announced that the album would be delayed indefinitely. This angered the fans, who had been waiting patiently. Their protests spammed the forums of Warner Music Taiwan, causing the entire website to be out of service for a week.

In February 2006, however, a Warner representative promised in an interview that the album would be released around late March/early April. It was only a few weeks later that magazine articles reported another change of staff members and the possibilities of the album being delayed into late April/early May.

In June 2006, she released a new single, entitled “The World I Want” [我要的世界].

In October 2006, the delayed album still had not been released, although Elva announced that it would be released in December. At that time she was in Los Angeles working on dance choreography. In addition, she released another new promotion single entitled “Elva Is Back”, a fast catchy song featuring electro beats and raps.

Elva and Warner Music announced in November that her newest album would be released on 22 December. The album is entitled [1087], signifying the number of days Elva had been absent from the Mandopop scene.

She recently released the music video for her single called “Confession”. Her second single is called “L.o.V.E”. Her third single is called “Not Far Away”.Her fourth single is called “The Ambassador. Her fifth single is called “Honey Honey Honey”. Her Sixth single is called “My Boyfriend”.

Film and other media work
In Taiwan, she has done television commercials for a wide diversity of products, ranging from cellular phones to jewelry to makeup, for major brands such as Avon, De Beers, Motorola, Pantene, and Sprite.

She has had film roles in two movies: Infernal Affairs (2002) and The Butterfly Lovers (2004). She is rumored to be participating in Fresh Tomato For Sauce (Announced 2007) alongsides Rainie Yang and Cyndi Wang.

Coco Lee Biography
Name: Coco Lee
Chinese name: 李玟
Profession: Singer, Actress
Born at: Hong Kong
Residing at:The United States
Birth Name: Ferren Lee-Kelly
Height: 5′ 7″
Birth Date: January 17, 1976

Education: Raoul Wallenburg Alternative High School (San Francisco) University of California, Irvine (UCI)
Mother: A medical doctor
Sister: Has two sisters and both are older
Claim to fame: The song A Love Before Time from the Soundtrack Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Ferren Lee-Kelly (李美林 Pinyin: Lin Měilín; also 李玟 Lee Wén) (born January 17, 1975), better known by the stage name CoCo Lee, is a C-pop star who has also recorded albums in English, contributed to several movies and represented internationally-known products to the Asian market. Her voice, especially in Just No Other Way, has been favourably compared with that of Mariah Carey.

CoCo Lee was born in Hong Kong with ancestry from Harbin, China. Her father died when she was young, and CoCo moved with her mother and sister to California at age 10 and went through school while experimenting with her singing voice and following her older sisters in entering several local singing contests. CoCo also often spoke of how close she is to her mother, even now. She said in interviews that her life in the past was not easy, and she always tried to save as much money as possible, doing errands to earn money. While she is not of rich background, she is not so poor until she has no roof above her head, or no food on the table – she says in an interview. After her high school graduation in 1993 she took a holiday in Hong Kong, and while there she came runner-up in a major singing talent quest. The following day she was approached by local record label Fancy Pie Records, recording four studio albums with them in 1994-95 before being picked up in 1996 by Sony who have continued to represent her ever since.

CoCo sang the theme song “A Love Before Time” for the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She received worldwide exposure when she performed the song live at the 2001 Academy Awards ceremony. Comments on Youtube and other internet media forums commented that she hit the high C6s right on, and delivered solid vocals. Her singing on the stage was skilled and she did not over-sing the song, bringing to the West the lovely beauty of Easternized music and culture. Her exquisite red dress which she wore to the Academy Awards Ceremony for the movie nomination, and her graceful stage presence gained her much applause in the West.

In addition to her mega-star status in the Mandarin and Cantopop music market, her English-language performance has also received recognition. Her song “Before I Fall In Love” was included in the soundtrack of the movie Runaway Bride. Before I Fall In Love is perhaps her most popular Just No Other Way song. Olinda Cho who is a third runner-up in the first Singapore Idol show sang this for the semi-finals.

She was invited by Andrew Lloyd Webber to perform Phantom of the Opera in China.

Also, Walt Disney Pictures hired her to sing the title song and be the voice of the heroine Fa Mulan in the Mandarin Chinese version of Mulan. She recorded the song “Reflections”, which she also sang at the 2005 opening of the Hong Kong Disneyland A “Reflections” Chinese music video was also filmed. While the Christina Aguilera version of the English version is more widely known, CoCo did also sing the English version, including one which she sang together with Christina.

CoCo also does part-time acting. This all-rounded entertainer co-starred in the movie comedy Master of Everything (aka Bamboo Shoot) with John Lone, which won the Best Foreign Film award at the 2005 Beverly Hills Film Festival. In character in this movie she sang one of her own hit songs, “Di-Da-Di”, which was a cover of Maria Montell’s “And So The Story Goes”.

In the world of fashion and commerce, CoCo was an Omega Watches Global Ambassador in 2004, and fashion house Chanel named CoCo its first “Asian-Pacific Celebrity Ambassadress”. This brought Ferren’s story full circle somewhat, as she got her nickname CoCo from being an admirer of the firm’s products.

In June 2005 CoCo’s engagement to millionaire Canadian businessman Bruce Rockowitz was made public, apparently having taken place some months earlier.
